Our
Performance of Gerontius
Magnificent moustaches have been helping choir members to get their mojo
working for our November
concert, which features Elgar’s dramatic and beautiful oratorio The
Dream of Gerontius.
Elgar’s
moustache was one of the most luxurious in British classical music, and
some of our tenors
and basses have been sporting the Elgar look in tribute to the great
English composer.
The
choir is also supporting the national ‘Movember’ campaign, which
encourages men to grow
moustaches during November to raise awareness of men’s cancers.
The
concert, at St John’s Church, Boxmoor, on Saturday November 12, will be
conducted by our
Music Director Stephen Jones. Stephen is also the founder and Music
Director of the City Chamber
Choir, who will be joining us for this performance to create a chorus of
more than 80 voices.
The
choirs will be accompanied by Hertfordshire Chamber Orchestra, and we have
three fantastic
soloists: mezzo soprano Sophie Mansell, tenor Peter Davoren and bass
Jon Saunders.
